Week 24 – 11th to 15th January 2016

Maddomswood Barn Conversion

This week has been very busy and next week will be even busier.

Trades on site:

Next week we will be joined by Steven Cassam and Adam Porter of S & A Plastering and Building. They will be carrying out the Plasterboard tacking and Plastering plus the Hardwall Plaster to the new block work walls, the specialist fire rated plaster to the fire surround and the tape and filling of the joints to the plasterboard fixed to the external oak structure.

We have hit programme this week which is great. All trades have worked hard and diligently. I have rewarded them with of course their wages plus Costa coffee and the odd cake! Happy site Happy Life…

Andy, Joe and Alex finished fixing the 100mm insulation, counter batten, sprockets and membrane to the external skin plus some other fiddly jobs inside the barn in preparation for the arrival of S & A Plastering on Monday the 25th of January.

NOTE: We had intended on using the same 200mm Helitie that was used on the warm roof to secure the insulation to the structure; however Andy did not feel that they secured the boards to the structure sufficiently due to the vertical installation. There was too much wobble and with the extra weight of the Oak weatherboarding there was a danger that the insulation boards/batten could work loose. The Helities are designed for warm roofs where the installation is at an angle. The solution was that e used the Helitie to fix the boards in place and then went around again and used 200mm screws to securely fix the boards to the oak studs through the counter batten.
